The American Public Health Association champions the health of all people and all communities. We strengthen the public health profession. We speak out for public health issues and policies backed by science. We are the only organization that combines a nearly 150-year perspective, a broad-based member community and the ability to influence federal policy to improve the public’s health.
Our mission is to improve the health of the public and achieve equity in health status with the vision of creating the healthiest nation in one generation. APHA, in coordination with its members and state and regional Affiliates, work to address ongoing public health concerns, including emergency preparedness. APHA has policy statements dating back to 1979 calling for training, procedures and standards related to radiological emergency issues and works with partners to increase awareness of key priority issues.
