A Mixed-Methods Approach to Understanding Radiation Preparedness within Local Health Departments

This report describes how local health departments (LHDs) are preparing to respond to radiation emergencies. The report findings are based on survey results and key informant interviews that were conducted in 2015. The research focused on better understanding how public health emergency preparedness coordinators at LHDs across the nation are currently planning for radiation events, as well as to examining the barriers and facilitators to radiation preparedness planning. The report contains many statistics about LHD radiation preparedness and provides links to many useful radiation resources. The report was produced by NACCHO in collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Radiation Studies Branch.
